Updated 18 May 2007

Britain's greatest ever all round athlete Daley Thompson has been passing on advice to young athletes who hope to follow him to international success.

Daley, the Olympic decathlon champion from 1980 and 1984 was conducting a Sainsbury's Futures seminar at the English Institute of Sport facility at the University of Bath.

He took the youngsters through a session of circuit training which is designed to illustrate just how hard you have to work if you are to reach the top level.

"This is the second year running that I have been running these seminars," said Daley. "They are all about bring together some of the most promising young athletes in the country and giving them an insight into what they need to do to take it to the next level.

"There is no doubt that these athletes have the talent to do that, but what I'm trying to demonstrate is that it also takes an awful lot of hard work to succeed at this sport."
